Frequently Asked Questions

1) What time does it start?
The Day Camp/ Senior Outpost day begins at 9:00am, but van routes start as early as 8:00am. On the van you are responsible for initiating games, singing, and engaging with campers. This is one of the most important times of day to use your leadership training.

The Pre Camp day begins at 9:30am and Junior Counselors arrive at camp at 8:45am to help with daily set up.

Remember, the Junior Counselor program teaches you skills that are necessary in the real world, like showing up on time.

2) How long does a day last?

3) Do I need a ride?
Junior Counselors do need a ride to and from camp each day. Parents of Junior Counselors have the option to fill out a waiver to allow their JC to sign themself out each day.

4) Do I need to bring a lunch?
YES! You will be responsible for bringing your own lunch, and it is also helpful for you to bring your own backpack and water bottle.

5) What do I wear?
Being a Junior Counselor at Outpost requires being able to run, kneel, get dirty and play, and your clothing must allow you to do all those functions. Outpost will provide you with Outpost shirts before the start of the session. Junior Counselors are required to wear their JC shirt each day of camp.

Junior Counselors may not wear any clothing that advertises inappropriate material, music, or that contains offensive language or references to sex, drugs, violence, or that may be viewed as offensive at camp by other staff, campers and parents.

Attire must allow for easy, comfortable movement for camp activities, including hiking and running. Shorts must be long enough to kneel, sit, bend over and play comfortably and appropriately.

Day Camp and Senior Outpost female Junior Counselors must wear one-piece swimwear.

Tennis shoes or closed-toe shoes are mandatory for safety reasons. Sandals are not permitted.

6) Can my friend and I work together?
You may choose which camp you want to be a participant in, however we match Junior Counselors with a particular Senior Counselor and age group that each person will with work well.

7) What if I have an appointment or school “thing”?
Outpost cannot make arrangements for Junior Counselor absences. It is expected that all Junior Counselors attend camp each day during their designated session. If you have school or a conflict, please call the camp office (858)842-4900.

8) Do I get volunteer hours for this?
When you finish your two week session you will get a certificate of leadership completion. This proves your achievement of the program, along with the number of total hours.

9) I have more questions, who should I talk to?
For more questions, call the office (858)842-4900 or email Kelly at kelly@outpostsummercamps.com. If you have questions during the summer, first ask your assistant director.
