Day Camp

Outpost is a  traditional outdoors camp, meaning we play outside with our campers. The key point of the previous sentence is “with” them. As part of the Junior Counselor Leadership program you will be an active part of your group, assisting the Senior Counselor and playing with your campers every day! Day Camp spends their day at Canyonside Community Park, the Los Penasquitos Nature Preserve, and the pool. On this page you will find out important information about being a part of the Day Camp Program.

Day Camp is split up into three main age groups

  • Lower Camp: 5-6 years old
  • Middle Camp: 7-8 years old
  • Upper Camp: 9-10 years old

Junior Counselor Training occurs on Saturday, June 9th from 8:00am-4:00pm and Friday, June 15th from 10:00am-7:00pm. JCs should bring a sack lunch, water, and wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothes to both training days. The last day of training will be the Saturday before his or her session. These are listed below:

  • Saturday, June 16th from 8:30am-1:30pm
  • Saturday, July 7th from 8:30am-1:30pm
  • Saturday, July 28th from 8:30am-1:30pm

Age Characteristics – Each age group at camp is different in their own way. Read this document to gain further understanding of your role in the development of each camper.

Typical Day at Camp – A typical day is anything but typical. Camp is a magical place that can be different each and every day. This document is just a scaffolding for what some of your daily responsibilities are as a Junior Counselor. Each day is made special by the Senior Counselor who leads your group.

Pool – We go to Pool every day, rotating between pools at ClubFit, Mt. Carmel High School, and Ned Baumer Aquatic Center. Here you can read about the expectations Outpost has of you and your leadership role at pool.

Fort – The fort is a special place for your group. This is something amazing that happens when you take your group to the fort and you see it magically transform from a tree to a fortress with booby traps, a shopping mall, or a newly formed golf course. This PDF explains Outpost fort rules, expectations, and daily happenings in the fort.

Emergency Procedure – The Senior Counselor is in charge of each group, however it is important for you to know the policies and procedures if an emergency were to occur. Review this handout, it will also be discussed during training.
