Senior Outpost

As a Senior Outpost Junior Counselor your first thought is always the campers. The campers go rock climbing, sailing, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, and to a high ropes course. As the Junior Counselor you facilitate the activities and help each individual camper push his or her comfort zone, while allowing them growth and fun times!

Senior Outpost Junior Counselors are typically the oldest high school students at camp. They are hand picked by the director team and placed with a specific age group.

Junior Counselor Training occurs at Day Camp on Saturday, June 9th from 8:00am-4:00pm and Friday, June 15th from 10:00am-7:00pm. JCs should bring a sack lunch, water, and wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothes to training days. The last day of training will be the Saturday before his or her session. These are listed below:

  • Saturday, June 16th from 8:30am-1:30pm
  • Saturday, July 7th from 8:30am-1:30pm
  • Saturday, July 28th from 8:30am-1:30pm

Age Characteristics – Each age group at camp is different in their own way. Read this document to gain further understanding of your role in the development of each camper. In addition, middle school students have particular characteristics that we work through at Outpost.

Senior Outpost Behavior Module – Read this through to gain a deeper understanding.

Typical Day at Camp – A typical day is less than typical. Camp is a magical place that can be different each and every day. This document is just a scaffolding for what some of your daily responsibilities are as a Junior Counselor.

Pool – We go to Pool on days when we do not go on any off-site trips. On pool days, we will rotate between using pools at ClubFit, Mt. Carmel High School, and Ned Baumer Aquatic Center. Here you can read about the expectations Outpost has of you and your leadership role at pool.

Fort – The fort is a special place for your group. This is something amazing that happens when you take your group to the fort and you see it magically transform from a tree to a fortress with booby traps, a shopping mall, or a newly formed golf course.

Emergency Procedure – The Senior Counselor is in charge of each group, however it is important for you to know the policies and procedures if an emergency were to occur. Review this handout, it will also be discussed during training.
